The story behind the artwork
Step into the pink-dusk glow of Ceylon, where history and myth entwine like the curling fronds of its wild palms. This 3D original artwork, inspired by our Ceylon Circular Elephants Palm Dusk print, transforms Sri Lanka into a floating dream-island-suspended in time, alive with colour, and humming with the quiet magic of its people and nature.
Here, the island rises from shimmering oceans like a jewel of the Indian Sea, its outline kissed by soft rose light. Layers of hand-built elevation raise shimmering palm canopies and ancient forest pathways into sculptural relief, capturing the island’s generous spirit and its tapestry of history. In 1948, the British Colony of Ceylon was granted independence as Ceylon. In 1972, the country became a republic within the Commonwealth, and its name was changed to Sri Lanka a name now synonymous with warmth, beauty, and resilience.
Woven through the landscape wander two majestic Sri Lankan elephants. Unlike their African cousins, these gentle giants have evolved over generations without tusks- a quiet testament to centuries of selective capture, where tusked elephants were prized and removed from the wild. Their presence in this artwork becomes a symbol of survival, adaptation, and the enduring grace of Sri Lanka’s wildlife.
Around them, palms stretch skywards as if whispering blessings; tea plantations ripple across the island like patterned tapestries; and the gentle influence of Buddhism radiates through the tranquil composition. Every element, from fauna to foliage, carries a touch of the fantastical- vivid colours, imagined textures, and surprising details that invite you to lean closer, look deeper, and lose yourself in the story.
