The story behind the artwork
Renaissance Rome looking at Architecture engravings, working with the Royal Stairway this entrance is multiplied to create a exaggerated sense of depth, its inspired by the time Kristjana spent at the V&A creating a exhibition in the British galleries. Kristjana passion here is working with depth and using the plates collected John Barrington which have a exceptional depth and clarity working with them creating dept and colour is a feast for the mind. The elements include the all knowing Paul Smith famous Zebra and English curiosities and industry like the fox coming for tea and the rabbit coming with the teacups as well as the industry that is the core of PS the sewing machines.
Kristjana deftly and intricately hand crafts dioramas to inject a profound sense of vitality into her art work. Kristjana captures the essence of this art form, which historically was a scenic painting, viewed through a peephole, in which adjustments to colour and direction of illumination simulate life-like changes to a piece. Kristjana’s modern-day take on the technique is to design, print and then hand cut the highest quality archival paper which is then slotted into the frame, layered to create the sense of reality and depth.
