The story behind the artwork

Overlaying the central section of the iconic Early Italian Renaissance masterpiece, ‘Primavera’ by Botticelli, Kristjana realises a powerful modern interpretation, fusing mythological figures with the faces of resplendent birds. The human mythology of the original painting - Venus, Flora, Zephyrus - is superseded by the triumph of fantastical nature.  The enigmatic aura is maintained and elements of Spring (Primavera) are enhanced with the addition of even more flora and fauna; boughs of heavily scented roses tumble in above the crescent neck of a white swan, streaked leaves envelop a pair of loyal dogs and a crested red jungle fowl balances a ticking time piece in its beak. At the centre, a top-hatted classic British gentleman has transmogrified into a wise old owl, fixing the viewer with a knowing look.

Printed in our studio in London on Matt Smooth Fine Art Cotton 300 gsm, using giclée inks to ensure you are able to enjoy your print for years to come. All prints come with a physical Certificate of Authenticity.

Edition of 125, signed and numbered by the artist.
