THE STORYLINE OF THE ARTWORK
For this personal private commission journey, a family from London's SW5 came to Kristjana for a piece that portrayed their characters and their collective interests of active sports, love of the outdoors and travel.
THE FIRST STAGE
Kristjana starts building the landscape, adding in flora and fauna, and working on the hero animals she has chosen to portray the members of the family. The family members are for this piece also depicted in line drawings of people speeding down snowy slopes in reference to their love of snow sports.
THE PIECE STARTS TAKING SHAPE
The design keeps evolving, with elements being added, coloured and positioned. Adding little details such as dates, nicknames, locations or personal interests infuses the work with originality and gives it its own private iconography.
The husband and wife, here portrayed as a dragon-scaled stork and a tiger albatross.
Active and sporty, the family enjoys skiing, snowboarding, kite boarding, paddle boarding, elements which Kristjana has subtly woven into the unique landscape.
THE FINAL DIGITAL DESIGN
A deep blue sky and dramatic sunset, inspired by a family photo, is added, completing the piece, before the cutting, sculpting and pinning of the delicate paper elements begins.
SCULPTING AND PINNING
This is when the magic happens; each piece is pinned into place by hand, bringing the artwork to life in its 3D form. Once complete, the artwork is framed by our specialist framer, carefully packaged and delivered to its final destination.
