The story behind the artwork

Magnus Grimsson, Kristjana's grandfather, fought in the Cod Wars in Iceland, a series of confrontations between the United Kingdom and Iceland over fishing rights in the North Atlantic. Kristjana's spent a lot of her youth in her grandfather's living room, drawing maps and imagining people at sea, and has vivid memories of her grandfather making troller nets, which were fascinatingly gigantic and almost neon green in colour. The artwork 'Calm At Sea', is based on an original oil painting by Willem Van De Velde the Younger, called Dutch Ships in a Calm Sea, and gives a serene base upon which Kristjana can capture her own depiction of life at sea, where the intrepid travellers of the past combine with her vivid artistic imagination.

Printed in our studio in London on Matt Smooth Fine Art Cotton 300 gsm, using giclée inks to ensure you are able to enjoy your print for years to come. All prints come with a physical Certificate of Authenticity.

Edition of 175, signed and numbered by the artist.

Limited Edition prints are delivered within 7–10 working days.

For orders shipped outside the United Kingdom, UK VAT is not charged.
