The Story Behind the Artwork

This piece is a delicate reworking of Kristjana’s famed Akari (red cold) and Niko (red child) artwork that explores the depiction of Japanese women in traditional silk printing. Taken from an original Japanese silk screen print, this gentle re-imagining of a portrait of a Japanese woman, and a mother with her child, reflects the elegant grace of the Japanese style and the way that women were represented and celebrated in art. The elegant heads of two white Lear parrots evoke flawless ivory skin, and look demurely away from the creator, creating an aura of mystery untouched by the world outside their confines.

Printed in our studio in London on Matt Smooth Fine Art Cotton 300 gsm, using giclée inks to ensure you are able to enjoy your print for years to come. All prints come with a physical Certificate of Authenticity.

Edition of 95, signed and numbered by the artist.
