This highly elaborate and intricate original artwork is a part of Kristjana's first Trilogy of London themed Originals. Layer upon layer of victorian engravings are delicately put together to make this beautiful piece. Some integrated into the map itself and many laser cut or carefully hand cut, folded and pinned in place by the artist.
Growing up in Iceland, where there are very few tall buildings, the impact the London skyline had on Kristjana was massive. She is truly inspired by this great city, and working on London themed artwork is a passion of hers. Nature has always been really important to Kristjana. The Icelandic nature is really harsh and unforgiving, it is very stark with lots of blacks, whites and greys. The colourful flora and fauna in other parts of the world is a great inspiration, and Kristjana enjoys playing with colours in her work, the colours in the nature elements bring a piece to life.
Kristjana's aim when designing the London Hringlaga Trilogy was to create light and calm work, with good breathability. The pieces are stunning on their own, but the impact of all three of them hanging side by side is very powerful. The other two pieces are: London Hringlaga Trilogy Original - West and London Hringlaga Trilogy Original - Central.
Kristjana launched the Original Trilogy in a meticulously renovated home on one of Chiswick's most prestigious streets, in early 2018. Click here for more information and photographs from Wavendon Avenue.
The London Hringlaga Trilogy is also available as limited edition prints which compliment each other when hung together. You can find the prints here: London Hringlaga Trilogy - East, London Hringlaga Trilogy - Central and London Hringlaga Trilogy - West.
