The story behind the artwork

The almighty world-scape is enveloped with the colours of the tropics, the equatorial hues breathing life and energy into the abundant flora and fauna that have made the continents their playground. The heroes of the piece shimmer like gems in sapphire and emerald: a flighty Hammerhead, Kristjana’s favourite creature of the sea, commands with its flamboyant feathered tail, a counter to his uncompromising dorsal. A majestic peacock displays in response, the eyes of his innumerable feathers stars to the tiny islands below. From within subterranean forests emerge the creatures of the deep; manta, parrot fish, and a solitary turtle, weaving its watery trail through the oceanic foliage before being met by reptilia of terra firma. Bejewelled iguana scope the tundra, a pensive frog and watchful lizards, curious with leporine ears. A duo of Sri Lankan monkeys play on their irreverent perch; above them a myriad colony of butterflies impart a spectrum of colour to the pulsating countries of this magical world.

Bespoke hand and laser cut paper collage. Digitally designed, hand-sculpted paper elements are painstakingly pinned in place onto a thick foam board, creating a stunning three dimensional effect. Utterly unique in its composition and to its owner, an original artwork is one of its kind and cannot be replicated.
